I Love Israel

I just got back from going on a Birthright trip to Israel. Birthright (Taglit), if you don’t know, is a free trip to Israel for young adults of Jewish descent. In my group we had 25 people age 22-26, plus 7 Israeli soldiers who joined us. I actually turned 22 on the last day of our trip. I had the option to go with either a 18-22 group or a 22-26 group, I figured the older group would be more enjoyable.

I had truly an amazing time. I left feeling a lot more connected to my own Jewishness and to the land of Israel. I especially loved Jerusalem, such a beautiful city with so much history. It was such a cool experience to be in a place where Jews aren’t a minority, but the majority. I learned a lot about Jewish history, what it means to be a Jew, and I had some great and enlightening conversations with the IDF soldiers. One thing they wanted us to take back with us is the fact that Israel is not the dangerous place that the media often portrays it to be; Israel is actually quite safe, I definitely felt safe everywhere we went. Overall it was an awesome trip and I’m so glad I went

Talk about learning about your own identity.
I understand that all citizens are conscripted, male and female, for two years of military service.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic Learning or constructing?
Pfuzylogic · M
@Kwek00 Are you trying to make a point here or just mobbing me?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic I was actually trying to make a point. People out here are not all out to get you. (even I am not out to get you)
Pfuzylogic · M
@Kwek00 we argued recently and so it isn’t unusual for someone to stalk afterwards. You made fun of the Christian church which I don’t tolerate.
So what point are you attempting to make, it appears very cryptic.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic Well you said "learning about your own identity". But when it comes to identity, "learning about" and "constructing one" seems to conflate a lot. Specially in a nationalistic sense, since nationalists always try to construct a reality. These realities can be really real to the subjective experience (which is pretty much the point of it all), but once identity is way more a construction then something of a natural thing.

@Kwek00 than allow me to have my simple response without harassment.
I didn’t harass your idea of God so there was no point in your response.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic This conversation is about "identity" when I want to talk about god I'll do that in the other toppics. No need to bring up things that are off toppic in certain other areas of the internet.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Kwek00 This conversation is about learning about the Tenakh and other holy books you have contempt for.
Leave the Judeo Christian tradition alone with your contempt and chase other posts for meaning.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic
You are seriously missing the point when you think I have contempt for books. There aren't a lot of books I have contempt for, and (for as far as I know) none of them belong to a religious circle. I have an old and new testament at home, I have a bahagavat Ghita and a Kuran. And diffrent literature of people that study these texts.

I do have a problem with religion and I also do have a problem with religious rhetoric. That's all true tough. But again... you are the one bringing this up here. I just commented on your "identity" remark. Just pointing out that identities are social constructs, and that nationalism (as an ideology) invests in this construction and the feelings that go with it. That it's not just learning about once identity, but a lot more about constructing it, deepening it out, intensifying it.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Kwek00 Honestly I see you defending your initial attack on me and you still can’t be honest about the previous confrontation we had. You nitpicked terms and ambushed me.
Leave in peace and don’t defend this silliness. Your other religious books mean nothing to me. I find the Old Testament historic about a very important people, Israel.
@Pfuzylogic men for 2 years 8 months , women for 2 years.
Back in my days it was 3 years for men .
There are other lengths and kinds of army service but the numbers I wrote is the majority.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic
Well it was pretty important for Israel. It kinda kept the nation (before the word "nation" even got meaning) together after the babylonian captivity.

My attack in the other post was against religion and religious rhetoric. That you can conflate that to something personal is pretty much your own problem.

I guess that's the diffrence between being intrested in religion (as in being open to look at all kinds of diffrent sources) and being religious (as in, being tunnelvisioned into one source).

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters
Thank you for that help. I met a couple of women from Israel that were conscripted back in the mid 80s and they shared that both male and females served.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Kwek00 The Holy Bible is not being tunneled when used as a point of contact with God. It is life and truth.
I hope that sometime in your lifetime you confront the Living God.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic
See, that's how tunnel-visioned it is.
That's also why everything I say, has to become some kind of "offends" because this toppic can't even be discussed.

Well, if I ever do confront him, then I'm really going to ask hims some questions before he sends me off my way tough. Like, there are some serious issues that need to be discussed when it comes to morality.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Kwek00 you used my response to this post for your own purpose. I got my answer. Now quit your totally unnecessary harassment. You can’t even defend your hostility. I will pray that your eyes are open to your defiance.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic
You could have just stayed on toppic Pfuzylogic.
I just responded to you, you didn't have to start about religion. I only wanted to ask the question about "identity".

It's pretty weird to start about something that you seem to be frustrated about, then have the other person respond to it. And then claim that I used your responds for my own purpose? How does that even work in your mind?
Pfuzylogic · M
@Kwek00
Go, you have no good purpose here.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic 🤦‍♂️
