They do not oppress women to anything like the same extent as the Afghan government does. I'm not sure but I think they are a bit freer in Iran than their Saudi sisters.
I still regard their government as thoroughly nasty, though.
Besides, hard-line male chauvinism is not confined to Arabian theocracies....
