I'd urge everyone to look about and get informed. Today I've found out that the crazed people who want regime change don't even mention the people of the country for real. Just have a listen at what they say.

Jon Stewart here is joined with Ben Rhodes, co-host of "Pod Save the World" and former Deputy National Security Advisor, and Christiane Amanpour, CNN's Chief International Anchor and host of "Christiane and The Ex Files with Jamie Rubin." Together, they trace the complex history that brought us to this moment, examine Trump's response to the escalation, and explore why achieving peace remains far more challenging than waging war:

Israel should fight it out. The USA needs to wait only eight days to the end of the IDF. Then Palestine can be free.
@Roundandroundwego Hilarious. I think you have it backwards, the IDF isn't going anywhere.

Palestine will be free when Hamas does what the IRA and the ANC did - forswear violence and sit down at the negotiating table in good faith. But you don't want that - you want the Palestinians to finish what Hitler started. At bottom, you're just another authoritarian tankie.

@LeopoldBloom I wish that you were right that Israel still wants a Palestinian state, but it really doesn't look like it. The most is the old Labor proposal of having them issue Jordanian pasports. In short, Israel will never hand over the land. Something that it does in Israel proper also now. Take away the right on the land in the modern sense and accept their belief that's been written down several centuries ago. One could call that religious extremism too, I guess
@LeopoldBloom Iran continues to punish the genocide. The IDF isn't going anywhere but away.
@Roundandroundwego There is no genocide. Gaza's population has held steady since the war began. Calling this a genocide is insulting to the victims of actual genocides happening right now, like the one in Sudan. But no one cares about that because no Jews are involved.
@LeopoldBloom yup. For you that's no genocide and our history doesn't count! Carry on, please! Solve the West. Arm Israel, Taiwan and Ukraine. Destroy socialism. The impressive death rates don't exist for you! Carry on. Harder!
Others totally buy your denials about an ancient Mediterranean people called Palestine. You're convincing, not Nazis at all!!!

@LeopoldBloom Would you call what happened in Bosnia a genocide? That's about the same amount of people killed at the lowest estimates, and a number of population still the same afterwards
@val70 It's a good question. Was the Allied bombing of Dresden a genocide? What about Sherman's March to the Sea?

What I find annoying is how the people screaming about "genocide" in Gaza, are ignoring other clear examples of genocide in China, Darfur, and elsewhere with much higher body counts. Going by the official definition of genocide, Russia's actions in Ukraine may count as one, as it includes the stated goal of obliterating Ukrainian culture, along with the kidnapping of Ukrainian children to be raised in Russia as Russians. Israel is certainly not kidnapping Palestinian kids and handing them over to Israeli families to be raised as Jews.

@LeopoldBloom The measure of a deed is about the mercy shown, my dear Leopold. This action in Gaza is on a power of the Saint Bartholomew's Day massacre. Wasn't a negocide either then. And won't end anything either by the way. As I told someone here only recently the Two-states solution is a dead parrot now and that's a shame. For the rest, I'm sure that Quebecois seem very much Canadian but I'll defend anyone who cries out for their freedom. That's the difference between being it and pretending to be it. Israel's reputation is gone and that's a shame too
@val70 Israel has been hated since before it was a country. Nothing has changed in that regard. As for the two-state solution, there were obstacles to that before Israel's actions in Gaza, and none of those have changed either. Here's my take on that if you're interested.

https://similarworlds.com/countries/israel/5099081-Why-there-has-not-been-an-agreement-for-a-Palestinian-state

If the Quebecois want their freedom, they need only vote for it. I've never been to Quebec (or Canada for that matter) but I'm not aware of anyone in Quebec calling for the death of everyone else in Canada as a prerequisite for their independence.

Gaza is a 140 square mile territory with 350 miles of tunnels underneath it. The construction of these tunnels is unprecedented in history, there's nothing else like it. These tunnels are lighted, air conditioned, and if Hamas had allowed the people of Gaza to hide in them, the way Israelis are allowed to hide in their own underground shelters, the casualties in this war would have been minimal. The lack of mercy in this war is coming from Hamas, not Israel, my dear Val. You may want to ask yourself why Hamas isn't interested in saving their own people when it would have been very easy for them to do so.

@val70 According to recent polls, Quebecois support independence by around one-third, with two-thirds preferring to remain part of Canada. Ironically, support for provincial sovereignty is higher in other provinces, with Alberta leading at around 47% depending on how the question is worded.

As an American, I'm completely ambivalent on this issue. Whatever the people involved decide is fine with me.

Another question about the Gaza "genocide" is whether anyone actually believes it's a genocide, or if they're just using that as a buzzword to express disapproval in the strongest terms. One rational response to a genocide by outsiders is to accept refugees, but I haven't seen much condemnation of Egypt for its refusal to open its own border with Gaza to allow people to flee, or any calls from protesters around the world, demanding that their countries accept as many Gazan refugees as possible. From what I can tell, many people in Gaza would prefer to leave. Yes, there is concern in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon regarding acceptance of Palestinians based on their past history, but that doesn't exist in Europe or the U.S. Why aren't the kids demonstrating on college campuses and chanting "free Palestine" demanding that the US let in refugees from Gaza? The only explanation is that they don't truly believe it's a genocide.

@val70 "Greater Israel" is the new blood libel promoted by antisemites. Israel has a population of around 10 million, 20% of which aren't even Jewish. They don't have enough people to occupy "Greater Israel," even if they wanted to. Stop repeating old Soviet propaganda that the Iranian regime is pushing.

If you're concerned about one group taking over where other people live, your friends in Hamas are definitely after Greater Palestine.

And understood, you think "ethnic cleansing" is worse than "genocide." Just admit that you don't want any Palestinians in your country.
@LeopoldBloom greater from the Atlantic Ocean to India, uber alles - no thinking things that do not support USA! You go do whatever, believing you really know greater Israel. Like shooting in the dark, I'm okay with that for ya!!;
