I think China did lie about it's population. I'm not exactly sure how much population they have

The numbers "everyone" knows for the USA are exactly equal to their predictions made in 1990. No change each year since in the "official" US population, though births went down unexpectedly and immigration went down unexpectedly and deaths rose unexpectedly. The population in the USA "knows," it's 330 million and also knows that it's 250 million or so.
China didn't revise each year. They're 1 billion or so.
