Stay well clear of the US going forward, the gong show is accelerating.

Canadians should be aware of stricter protocol when visiting the United States in the coming weeks, including a photograph upon exiting the country.

But most Canadians don't have to worry about the social media deep dive — for now. Still, U.S. border guards may request access to your smartphone and can look at whatever is on it. This might include sensitive photos, documents and text messages.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is proposing additional changes to its Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) program, which include requiring a traveller's social media history for up to five years, their family members' places of birth, and email addresses used in the last decade.
