It only snows when the temperature is no more than 5 degrees below freezing, because any colder than that and it's actually too cold to snow.

The colder it gets as it snows, the finer the snow flakes become as they fall until they resemble tiny grains of sand as the temperature drops.

The warmer the temperature, the larger the snowflakes are when they fall... ❄
