You’ll find me in Saskatchatoon, Canada.
For some odd reason, I found myself driving up north to purchase something. Along the way, I noticed I was getting drowsy. I was awakened by slowing to a stop against a yellow concrete barrier post for a police training simulation. Unaware of what was happening, a fellow onlooker updated me that they were training for human trafficking scenarios. We watched from a distance as the training continued. Once it was over, the officers thanked us for our time and directed traffic back onto the small town road.
Somehow, with no memory of what had happened since the training exercise, I was walking through the concourse of an indoor shopping plaza. There was an unusual number of popcorn booths and it smelled amazing. Eventually, without making a purchase, I found an exit. The door attendant, a beautiful native woman opened the door for me and asked if I enjoyed my stay at the casino and asked if I needed help getting my car. I told her that I wasn’t entirely sure where I parked. She and two more associates walked me out the doors and through the parking lot.
We crossed over a small wooden bridge that spanned a small stream. One of the employees pointed out the enormous pike that had gathered at the bridge. She reached in her purse and pulled out something that she hand fed the gigantic fish. She offered me some, and so I fed the pike by hand, too, marveling at their sheer size and their ferocious looking rows of teeth.
It occurred to me that I had no idea where I was, so I asked. “Saskatchatoon, Canada” they each replied.
Oh. How did I get across the border without a passport? What in the world happened?
So, these 3 casino shopping plaza employees and I got into one car. They drive me around Saskatchatoon, showing me the local sights. We went into a small gift shop with two blue healer pups that belonged to the proprietor. I looked for a keychain to commemorate my adventure, but none of them said “Saskatchatoon”, so I left empty handed.
Back in the car, I explained that I had considered moving to Canada because of a bad relationship situation. I asked where they thought was the best place in Canada to live with young kids.
Just then, my oldest son woke me up so I could take him to work. I rarely remember my dreams, but this one one was just so real. I didn’t get to find out how I got home to Michigan, or if I ever did. So, until then, I guess you’ll find me in Saskatchatoon.
