It doesn’t matter if the flight is from a US airport or even a US airline, if you are catching the flight from within Canada at a Canadian airport going to a place in Canada, then you are not crossing the border.
But if you are sure that it is a US airport, then technically that is US territory… you’d have to check their visa requirements to be sure.
Same thing if you try to cross to Buffalo NY from Niagara Falls through the bridge (even on foot)… the moment you exit the Canadian customs, you’re out of Canadian territory. If you don’t have a US visa, the US border officials at the other end of the bridge would not even let you in.
If you try to walk back to the Canadian side of the bridge, you will not be able to enter unless you carry a multiple entry visa for Canada. Because technically your return at the bridge is another entry to the country.
I would think airports would be regarded the same way… so check before you exit any Canadian borders.

@CookieCrumbs Thank you for such good explanation.. Actually the buffalo airport was one of the airports I was considering...!!! and omg it would be such a bad situation to not even be able to re-enter Canada and get stuck there .. True that I will be a permanent resident by then, but I will still have have no card to show and will probably be held until verified, such an unfortunate situation on a vacation.. Crazy I was going to book a flight like an idiot until I realised it was an American airport 🤦♀️

Are you traveling here/entering Canada with a PR status or visitor visa?

@CookieCrumbs I am entering Canada with a single entry visa, in order to become a permanent resident, and for me to be able to re-enter Canada, i will need my PR card which won't be available until weeks or months after my landing, so definitely such a bad situation for me to leave the borders, and then come back and swear to the border officers that I am a PR but I just don't have the card yet 🤦♀️ I was seriously very close yesterday to booking a flight from a US airport LOL😅

Glad you didn’t. Thank @Viper for sharing this post to me.😜 That part about the bridge- that’s a true story.
I wish you the best in your new journey. I hope you’ll like Canada as your new home.
Do you have family to live with in Toronto?

@CookieCrumbs Thank you for the shout out and thank you for helping, I know you travel a lot more than I do.
Glad to see you were able to help more than I could.
But yes, if you get off the ship or plane (and I think plane layovers often make you get off), but one foot off and your technical in another country.
