when people from anywhere else in Australia come here they always say 1 thing : what's with the beach mate?

why is it so ... flat....whats wrong with it....And I need to tell them it's the Bay Mate... its. not the ocean....
And they are always like : I WANT THE OCEAN
and im like : ok we need to go for a drive.....about an hour to get to Bells Beach....
