Are Americans more and more familiar with the word mate?
Since they see it all the time on social media from English and Australians

In my younger days,"mate" was used in conversation considerably more rarely than it is now.I was addressed as "mate" once in the U.S. by someone who just learnt that I was an Aussie - but he pronounced it like "meet".
