Melbourne Covid Protests. The other side:

A certain Awakened individual has been putting out a story about police violence over the past few days regarding anti Vaccine protests.
There is enough fairly reported material out there on news.com.au... or abc.com.au that I wont bore you with it.
Its safe to say that while several police were hospitalised, some with broken bones, and a few protesters also received medical treatment, no one on either side was killed or had life threatening injuries.. One arrested protestor has been found to be Covid positive and is in hospital related to that, causing several police officers involved in his arrest to be quarantined.
As a side note, the condemnation of these protestors is universal in the public. With the police being called out for dealing with them too lightly.
Everyone arrested copped a fine over $5000. Just for being there. Those who attacked police or caused Damage to vehicles or our Shrine of Remeberance will face charges. Dont believe what you read here without checking reliable outside sources.😷

It comes to this. Both safety and freedom are valuable. Each individual is empowered to decide which is more valuable to them.

If the protected(vaccinated)need to be protected from the unprotected by forcing the unprotected to get the protection that didn’t protect the protected, something might by a bit off.

@redredred Yes, that is one way to look at the situation. Another way is the example of a society being invaded by an outside force. Do the people in the society come together to defeat the invader? Other countries have defeated covid with great success. Wearing masks and taking vaccines to fight a pandemic is not rocket science. Are we going to be terminally unique?
redredred · M
@GrinNude If the vaccine works, how are the vaccinated at risk? If the vaccine doesn’t work, why pressure people to get it? Really, this is a sincere question.
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@redredred The vaccine does work. The vaccinated people that get infected mainly get mild cases but they can still spread it to other people that have not been vaccinated and can get a major case. The death rate has risen from well below 1,000 people a day to now above 1500 people per day. These 1500 people per day dying of covid are for the most part unvaccinated people. And before they die they are overwhelming the ICU units. This death rate and this burden on ICU units can be mitigated by masks and vaccinations.

@GrinNude what you describe is not a working vaccine. I have been vaccinated for polio, measles, mumps and rubella. I have been exposed to people with those diseases and have not contracted those illnesses. Do you know anyone who has?
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@redredred More importantly, do you know of a better method than vaccines and masks to mitigate the number of people dying per day and the burden on the ICU units?
redredred · M
@GrinNude do some research on Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state. It appears that, in the absence of vaccines, sick people have been treated with the dreaded Ivermectin. Ivermectins developers were awarded the 2015 Nobel prize for medicine. UP has used it as an anti-viral with good success. Ivermectin is libeled as horse dewormer but many human medications have related and unrelated veterinary applications. Ivermectin is one of those.

@redredred Do some research about the pandemic of 1918 and read what happened to the people in areas where they rebelled against wearing masks.
redredred · M
@GrinNude Do your own research on the 1918 pandemic and see how many people died from bacterial(not viral)infections from dirty masks. Even Fauci authored a paper on it. BTW, masks don’t take long to get dangerously dirty.

@redredred Clearly you are not fluent in the history of vaccines. A Vaccine is not a magic bullet medication that gives each individual a "cure" or suit of armour to a virus. A vaccine is an early warning system which allows a body to build walls and other defences and recognise an enemy in advance. So a failure to prevent an immunized person from catching a vurus is a twofold failure. First a failure of a persons immune system to build a solid defence, due to age, general health or an underlying health issue, or due to the virus having evolved and not looking like the virus the system was shown in the vaccination. Or in the case of first generation Vaccines that are the first available, the vaccine being too spcific and targetting the virus definition too tightenly, which can cause a fading of the response in too short a time as the body "forgets" what the virus looks like. If you think that doesnt sound right, consider that you continue to "catch cold" your entire life and need an almost annual Flu shot.
So in the end it becomes a numbers game. Social distance and clean hands cut the likelihood of you being exposed at all. A mask filters the air to reduce the amount of virus you inhale. A vaccine improves your ability to recognise and fight off the virus, and failing that it does allow your body to fight the virus enough to stop it killing you. And each generation of the vaccine, will protect better and last longer, doing that job.
Finally. the more people who get vaccinated early, the less cases there are out there to evolve into one that can beat the old vaccines and live to fight another day. So for now, take your vaccine shot, and the booster as needed , and let the sciences continue to work on a better vaccine that lasts longer, so this virus can be sent the way of Tuberculosis, smallpox and Polio.😷
@redredred Again proving right wingers don't bother to learn even high school level info on how immunization works before making claims of expertise.

And I must have missed the right to be a danger to public safety and have zero consequences for your choices. I guess personal responsibility is for everyone else.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Sadly I fear this is an attitude to the "right" to a freedom over a sense of responsibility that some people fail to grasp.😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Don't get me wrong, I like my freedoms and rights. But they do have the flaw of assuming most people are reasonable adults who can be trusted to make reasonable, mature decisions on their own without be made to do it.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow True. Without hijacking my own thread I can see how the firearm debate has the same problem. The majority of owners are responsible and safety conscious. (as evidenced by the fact that most Americans are still alive) by that irresponsible minority who insist of the "rights and freedoms" without the responsibilty are a menace to themselves and everyone around them.😷
redredred · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I see all you’ve got to say about my honest question are insults. That tells me all anyone needs to know about your low level of intelligence. I’m happy, given your unavoidable limitations, you’ve made it this far. Congratulations.
@redredred Nope, just statements of fact. I am sorry that threatens you. Then again you don't operate on facts, just feels.
@redredred don’t pay attention pictures of a communist tomorrow. He’s a dumb arse
@BalladOfADeadSoulja Another triggered snowflake.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow so I understand is that you like communists. What I don’t understand is.. why?
redredred · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Your “facts” are all opinion and not wise ones if you consider the number of 180 degree turns our “experts” have made since the creation of this pandemic. Bat stew anyone?
@redredred Nope. Believing facts are opinion is a right wing Trumpist thing. I am sorry you don't even have a high school level understanding of the subject you feel the need to declare expertise in.

Where is your MD? Where is your specialization in epidemiology or immunology? Oh right! you don't know what you are talking about. Been getting treatments at the feed store too?
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
redredred · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Was it no masks, one masks, two masks, was it contact surfaces no contact surfaces, was it fifteen days to flatten the curve or 540 days to flatten the curve, does the vaccine protect you or does it only do so if the other guy gets a vaccine? All these “facts” have been given as fact. They are opinions. Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. Those aren’t my words but those of Richard Feynman. Look him up.
@redredred Again you have this all wrong and it actually makes sense if you look into more than snarky soundbites on Fox.

Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts

Nice motivationation quote but I am not sure what your point is. Still doesn't change the fact you are wrong.

Quoting Feynman to basically make an anti vax point is just funny.

You might also want to look up the definition of novel.
redredred · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow okay, you won’t listen to this but if you did you’d be smarter than you are now

@redredred And now childish insults because I won't accept your conspiracy theory. Nice.
