I Love Australia
I got my first taste of "down under" when I was in the US Coast Guard. On an icebreaker we stopped into Sydney and Hobart before hitting the ice at McMurdo Station. I remember approaching Sydney Harbor with the high cliffs on each side which reminded me of England for some reason
Then we saw The Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
As we approached the dock, we saw a group of girls waving signs "Welcome Polar Star!". We didn't know who these women were, but we had our own cheering squad! LOL!
That's when I knew Aussies were cool. We had a blast, went to Bondi Beach, where we saw the lifeguards doing drills & admired the gorgeous women!
Went to the zoo, saw the kangaroos, wombats, and held a koala bear!
Actually made a few friends there. One crewmember apparently liked it so much he never showed back up onboard! We stopped in Hobart, Perth and Adelaide as well. Stayed on the ship to make a second trip down south.
I would move down there if I had the chance!
