I looked, and I can't verify that claim. Currently, we are approaching Antarctic summer, and the South Pole has had 24 hr sunshine for the last two months, so the claim seems rather unlikely.

BTW, the lowest temp ever recorded in Antarctica is -135.8°F, recorded by satellite. That reading was made in August of 2010, deep in Antarctic winter. You could reach a lower number by estimating a "wind chill" but that can't be done from a satellite.
