Actually as someone who crosses the border every month to shop and go to my fav restaurant (not recently since tariffs though), I can tell you that Canada has better prices on 50% of the exact same clothes and shoes in the states.

Here’s an example - last fall I wanted a particular pair of knee high boots and I wanted to check the price across the border in NY before I bought them. They were 50$usd more than they were in Canada. Exact same pair.

Even a lot of groceries are the same price in USA so I only have specific items I buy there every month - ones I can’t get at home but I’d say i get the best deal when I buy meat in the USA. That’s the big savings.

Resraurants are not necessarily cheaper either, especially the chain restaurants as Canada often has the better price

Keep in mind that the reason American beef is not imported into Canada is because it's quality does not meet the Canadian standards. American beef ranchers use growth hormones in their beef production, most of which are banned in Canada for food production.

When you skip across the Canada/US border to specifically buy beef, you must first check with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website before you buy American beef because there are many restrictions on beef, buffalo and bison meat.

Beef purchased in New York for example, didn't necessarily come from the State of New York, which means that the label on the package MUST reveal which State the beef was produced in, or it won't be allowed across the border into Canada. If the beef was produced in a restricted State, the Canada Customs Agency will confiscate your beef and destroy it onsite.

Only commercially produced and labeled American beef is allowed across the border into Canada. These restrictions are in place for beef products coming into Canada from the USA because of the very high prevalence of 'Mad Cow Disease' in the US which is not controlled in some US States, unlike Canada which strictly enforces 100% control of the disease on every commercial beef producing ranch in Canada.

Keep in mind as well that Mad Cow Disease transfers from animal to human just as quickly as it transfers from animal to animal and its a disease that attacks the brain of humans or animals which then leads to death of the person or animal, of which there is no cure for.
yeah...don't come to canada, trump may accuse us of allowing you to enter the usa illegally...i can tell you a whole ton of states that have more unstable weather than where i'm from.

@beermeplease Should I challenge swirlie about the differences of healthcare between our countries and that we are not bankrupt paying for it. We've had this discussion even about Canadians crossing into the US for serious care need immediately. I have history with swirlie obviously forgotten. Recently unblocked as a test. Previous replies indicate a serious incident is forgotten and overlooked. I'm containing myself with difficulty.

The reason it's cheaper in the USA is because Americans make less money than Canadians. By the time Americans pay for their own healthcare, they are bankrupt anyway. Not the case in Canada. Canada actually has more stable weather than anywhere else on earth because Canada's weather is totally predictable. People in the USA die from their weather but Canadians don't die from Canadian winters or summers because our standard of living accommodates all seasons with great ease.
