Why don't we get countries names right?

Germans called Germany, Deutschland
So why do we call it Germany?

Japanese called Japan, Nihon (日本) or Nippon (日本).
So why do we call it Japan?

Why don't we call Countries, what they call themselves?

Those are countries, not counties... 🤔🤔🤔

The system you propose is fine and good - until you reach the point where the country you're applying it to doesn't have the letters or words in their language to say the name.

But we transition it to Nihon or Nippon.
