First, I want a massive expansion of temporary housing.
I want government agencies, state and federal, to check on each homeless individual and see what federal or state benefits they qualify for but aren't receiving: Veterans benefits, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment, SNAP, etc.
I want to have the government give them assistance in receiving any unclaimed property of theirs (dormant bank accounts, stale checks, stocks, etc.) that might be sitting in state treasury departments.
There are very few people who are homeless and living on the streets by choice - if any!
They are almost always suffering from either a personal economic crisis (and need help), addicted to drugs or alcohol (and need help), have a mental illness (and need help) or are a victim of domestic violence (and need help).
