The MAGA are not even conservative. They CONSERVE nothing. They are the RINO's, that they themselves complain about.
@DeWayfarer Although, tbf "conservative" is the right’s term for themselves. It’s never really been an accurate term for what they seem to support at any given time.

@bijouxbroussard Not in the last 150 years. Yet please remember Lincoln was a Republican.
@DeWayfarer I’ll tell you what I tell them:

They lost any claim to "the Party of Lincoln" when their representatives began protesting while carrying the flag of the people who assassinated him.

@bijouxbroussard Far far later. Democrats didn't become liberals until 1930 with Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Then slowly the Republican party became more conservative in 1940-1950. Then outright turn coated in the 1960s.

It actually hasn't been a hundred years since Republicans had a descent stance.

Please remember Martin Luther King was nearly crucified by the Republican party.
@DeWayfarer But there were what we call liberals and conservatives in both parties. The southern Democrats were often much more conservative than Northern Democrats or Republicans.

This century has seen "Republican" as almost a synonym for conservative, because they ran their last progressives out. The Democrats still have a few conservatives left.

@bijouxbroussard believe me I have noticed that last part. I'm no fan of Gavin Newsom.
@DeWayfarer I am a fan of Gavin, have been since he was our mayor and I got to meet him.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard He is for the wealthy, no different than turn coat Reagan. Reagan was a Democrat once.
@DeWayfarer I totally disagree with you and we should probably stop talking about it at this point.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Ok, I'll leave this up in the air then how would you have felt about Kamala Harris running for governor? She is a real Democrat. Like Jerry Brown was.
@DeWayfarer And I like both of them very much. Remember, she was our AG and then our Senator before she became VP.
You cannot tell me Gavin’s like Reagan, when I’ve seen each as governor here. Even Arnold was more progressive than Reagan.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard I call Reagan a turn coat for a very good reason. He was the president of the screen actors guild a union. And because of a house of his was going to be taxed he switched parties. Newsom is the same. If given the opportunity to lower the taxes on the wealthy he would. In fact he refused tax his own house.
@DeWayfarer Like I said, I don’t agree with you. Two entirely different sets of circumstances.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Do you remember what Jerry Brown did in his first term? He raised the taxes on housing and refused to live in the governor's mansion.
@DeWayfarer Yes, and while I respected that it’s not my sole measurement for a leader. You’re not going to change my mind here, so respectfully I ask again let’s drop this topic.

@bijouxbroussard I'm not trying to re-ignite the debate / discussion, but I also like Gov Newsom. You've known me long enough to know that I've not had a major party candidate from either party that I could vote for. I could vote for Gov Newsom. Not because he and I agree on everything or even most things. But because I see him as a decent person with whom I have *enough* alignment with. :) 🤞🤞🤞
