Racial/Sexual changes to Superhero characters different from my youth...

I see many changes from my almost 50yrs of reading/collecting comic books. Not being racist/sexist... but remembering the good old days. In movies/tv/cartoons and I guess comics today...Why did they have to change skin color of Perry White, Nick Fury, Jimmy Olsen, Wonder Man(Disney+). I remember it was a big deal (was even on the TV news) when Alpha Flights NorthStar came out gay... but why change Alan Scott being gay. Seems half of Legion of Superheroes are Bi/Gay or non-binary. Before some of you idiots attack with race/homophobic bullshit... Just thinking of the creators of these characters back in the 40's-80's. Curious how they feel(if still alive) of how their creation has been changed.
