I'm a Professional Cosplayer so I will give pointers to anyone interested in Cosplay or who are starting out. this might be long
1. Think of who you want to be : one of the hardest things for a beginning cosplayer is deciding what starting costume you want to begin with. commonly go with a favorite character if you can it's all you.
2. Make or Buy an outfit : Now me I buy my own cosplays and what I can't buy I make but don't worry if you can't if your unable to purchase a costume make it there are literally thousands of cosplay making videos out there to go by and it's as easy as that.
3. There's always room to improve : already have a cosplay but feel like it's lacking build on it there's no harm in experimenting with different options.
4. Make a back story for your character if you are doing a custom one ( Optional): If your doing a Cosplay on a character you created a good back story Is always good to have to explain to other cosplayers or people who may not understand what your going as.
5.Cosplaying in Public : I've heard from so many Cosplayers that the most anxiety inducing moments are cosplaying in public even I had my first jitters but sadly I'll say their will be people looking at you odd or who may give mixed looks but don't worry a very large majority of people will love it depending on what you are or if they recognise it. and will stop to take pictures even wanting to chat with you Cosplay isn't just reduced to comic cons.
6. There will be haters : As haters go they are everywhere and their will be a few but don't worry all you have to do is push past it mainly they are hating because you are having more fun then them. common names you may be called at least ones I have " weird, freaky, a nerd, a virgin for life my favorite, odd, stranger, weirdo, crazy, the list goes on" in fact I met my girlfriend at a con and though we are currently friends until we have more time she is actually the one who deepened my love for it cosplaying Is a form of. art and never let anyone guilt you into not pursuing it it's your life and yours to do as you see fit take it from me I've been a cosplayer since I was eleven years old starting by tying garbage bags to my back and pretending to be Batman to now owning high Quality Costumes and even have a Darth Vader Cosplay on the way. will I end it No because it's my passion, will I let others ruin it for me no , because we all have our interests , Do i think everyone should try it. well no its their choice but to those interested in it yeah. because putting on your first cosplay or being surrounded by others at a comic con being stopped for pictures or kids waving at you its a truly exhilarating feeling and overall a great experience. :)
