I Like Mozart

W. A. Mozart, "Ruhe sanft mein holdes Leben", a beautiful aria from Zaide, an unfinished opera, and a precursor to the Entfuhrung aus dem Serail. I love Mojca Erdmann's wonderful performance.

Good work Mojca! 🌷

If you like this, you should listen to Richard Strauss' "Ruhe meine seele": "Rest, my soul" in the orchestrated version. He orchestrated it 50 years after composing it, the impetus being his name being cleared by the de-Nazification tribunal. It is extremely beautiful and touching.

@laotzu92 Thank you thank you! 🌷
I have it on CD, performed by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.

Her interpretation of the Four Last Songs on the same record is also incredibly beautiful.

Aah, German romanticism!

@helenS It is a classic recording. i was just reading an essay (in part because access was limited) by Timothy Jackson that Strauss intended that the orchestrated "Ruhe…" be performed just before "Im Abendrot", the last of the Four Last Songs. Interesting thesis.
