Amazing pieces of classical music - 21
Claude Debussy's Nocturnes, L.91: I. "Nuages" (Clouds), performed by the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Leopold Stokowski in 1957. Once again, Stokowski used his so-called 'Stoki tricks' to completely reshape the orchestra's sound and make it his own. He therefore chose a completely atypical organization for the instrumental scene for this recording, concentrating the woodwind and brass instruments to the right of the studio. The degree of control and restraint in this piece, "Nuages", is almost hypnotic. The question remains: has this music by Debussy ever sounded more enchanting?
