Amazing pieces of classical music - 22

Hummel's Trumpet Concerto In E Flat - Third movement (Rondo) with Tine Thing Helseth as soloist, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and its inspirational artistic director Pekka Kuusisto at the helm.

At the age of eight, Johann Nepomuk Hummel received music lessons from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was impressed by his talent. Hummel received free lessons from Mozart for two years and also lived there for two years.

At the age of nine, Hummel gave his first concert performance at one of Mozart's concertos. Seventeen years later, in 1804, Hummel became concertmaster of Nikolaus II, Prince Esterházy's estate in Eisenstadt. He later held the positions of Kapellmeister in Stuttgart from 1816 to 1818 and in Weimar from 1819 to 1837, where he befriended Goethe.

Although he composed less and less, yet was still highly respected and admired, Hummel died peacefully in Weimar. Thus, while Hummel died famously, with a posthumous reputation that apparently remained undamaged, he and his music were quickly forgotten during the rise of the Romantic era, perhaps because his classical ideas were considered outdated

Beautiful piece.

Consistently amazed by the genius of such composers. How fortunate their works were preserved, and live on into the 21st century.
