A touching symphony . . .

Gustav Mahler's ''Symphony No.5'', composed between 1901 and 1902 in a little cottage on his lakeside villa in Maiernigg, Austria.

A lovely, soothing, gentle, romantic soundscape — perhaps it evokes this sense because he wrote this movement as a love letter to his wife (though I think at the time he had just met her)?

According to a letter his wife later wrote, Mahler also left a small poem with the symphony draft he shared with her in his quest to woo her:

Wie ich Dich liebe, Du meine Sonne,
ich kann mit Worten Dir's nicht sagen.
Nur meine Sehnsucht kann ich Dir klagen
und meine Liebe, meine Wonne!

In which way I love you, my sunbeam,
I cannot tell you with words.
Only my longing, my love and my bliss
can I with anguish declare.

There is that word again ... sehnsucht ... 🥰

Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful music 🤗💚☺
@BlueGreenGrey

It is, isn't it ? Such beautiful inspirations are often caused by love. If they had just met, it must have been love at first sight !☺

That's a very romantic letter from him to her, which is not a surprise from a man who could compose such a beautiful symphony for his beloved.

Sehnsucht- desire, longing, yearning, craving... those who are in love feel this, without a doubt ❤‍🔥🤗

Thank you for your beautiful comment and also for liking the music 🤗💚💞☺
