In 1787, when Beethoven was 16, he traveled to Vienna to meet and study with Mozart.

But then his mother fell ill shortly after his arrival and Beethoven had to return to Bonn, Germany.

I wonder if his music would have been different had he studied with Mozart.

It's possible, but I doubt it. He did move permanently to Vienna in 1792 and studied with Haydn. In any case he was his own man and a revolutionary, and his music from the Eroica onwards has a character quite unlike anything that had gone before.

Actually, young Beethoven sounded as if he were a Mozart clone 😏
See here, for example:

Would you have thought that piece was composed by Ludwig van?

@helenS Not as easy to 'place' as most orchestral Beethoven, for sure. English horn? 🤔 I'd never heard it called that before, but by its French name (cor anglais). Not English, and certainly not a horn...

Thanks for posting that! 🙂

@helenS Where are the storm clouds! It’s all pretty like. Now give me some of the old Ludwig Van.

Maybe the big teacher would have swallowed him
