Franz Liszt, "Mephisto Waltz #1" (1859)

That's a very haunting piece.

I first learned about its existence by reading about it, rather than hearing it. (Although I think I had heard it beforehand without realizing the title.)

There is a novel called The Mephisto Waltz. It's about a pianist who sells his soul to the devil, hence the significance of his playing that particular piece of music.

There was a film that took its title from this piece...it had all the usual suspects😄
