Only commandments 5, 8 and 9 are likely to have any direct relevance to the lives of children. The rest are vices that most children are unlikely to be aware of (but which they might aspire to achieve in later life). Of course these commandments will not apply to the politicians who impose them as that would be far too inconvenient 🤷♀

A lot of those kids will learn to question and doubt the Bible from those Commandments when they realize almost no one pays any attention to them. It was reading the Bible that made me how evil religion is.

@hunkalove Eternal torture if you don't do exactly as told!

@SW-User Who are you talking to where you say it's baseless fantasy? I have them blocked.

It's a start. Morning prayer and grace before lunch would be good improvements. Kids should be taught the truth of God's love and the need to follow Him in all things,

God is true and the Bible is true, even if most things taught about them are lies

@th3r0n My love of reason and testable evidence leads me in a different direction.

@SW-User I don't think that's ever once been the thing to lead someone away from believing in God
In fact, if we look clearly at what exists it's clearly an intelligent functional system and scientific principles tell us that order is not obtained randomly, that it takes an act with energy and effort to maintain order in chaos
Also, there are so many parts of a cell that have to function in order for it to work, the most basic cell never would have formed randomly
You can sit there and convince me you think Cthulhu made the universe, but science itself supports creation not chaos

teaching children about God and religious faith is no different than passing on moral values, culture, or scientific understanding, and is vital for their spiritual upbringing
religion is a form of passing on cultural traditions, and that it may not strictly be different from secular education in that regard

Expose the things truths I say. Let them be scrutinized. I don't like that they're mandatory. But if they are then let the kids pick them apart with their logic. Some say it will do the opposite effect than what the religious-minded intended for it to do.

we used to say the Lord's Prayer when I was in Elementary School - it was right after the Pledge of Allegiance.
if you heard us - it was like a chant that we didn't think about

@SW-User Catholic schools accept non-Catholic students, too (at least they did when I was in school). A lot of the ones I knew thought the teachings were ridiculous. I simply meant the atmosphere wasn’t unfamiliar to me.
I left the church about 30 years ago.

@bijouxbroussard I came from an Irish Catholic family. I never believed a word I was taught.

Too many words. Could just be boiled down to: don’t be a dick
bijouxbroussard · F
@BiasForAction And yet so many there still can’t follow that guideline.

@bijouxbroussard The ten commandments seem common to all Abrahamic religions but not to people of other beliefs. I'd point out that these rules predate any religion. They're necessary to community living.
bijouxbroussard · F
@SW-User There are people from all over the globe here, and not all practice Abrahamic religions. But as taxpayers they are being compelled to pay for the Christian indoctrination of all public school children (including possibly their own). There already exist Christian schools for parents who want their kids so taught—separation of Church and State should allow state public schools to remain secular.
