My State of Texas

About this time one week ago my family arrived at my best friend’s home because their daughter was missing in the Guadelupe River flood from Camp Mystic. Over the first couple press conferences were respectful and honoring the victims. Then the national media came in and it became a blame game. Specifically President Trump. To me this sickening. Whether you like him or not. To infer that he as a person or his policies contributed to this tragedy is sick.

I have two very close friends who have missing daughters right now. One where I live and one in the Houston area. I have been with my best friend here everyday. I’ve watched her and her husband cry. I’ve watched them completely zone out. I held her while she collapsed after walking into her daughter’s room a couple days ago.

If you are that shallow enough to blame one man based off your hate for him, you are a sick human. If you are doing that for political gain the you are even sicker. If you don’t like this post then block me.

From the perspective of a former resident of Houston-please extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those lost in the floods.

…please extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those lost in the floods.

Why does where you lived matter in this instance?

@RedBaron In January of 1979-when I was 14 and my mother was 34-we got caught in a flood-via waist deep water-in a wealthy Houston neighborhood, Total strangers rescued us-via the use of a sturdy pick up truck-additionally-they allowed us to stay in their palatial house/mansion overnight. Hence-we will ALWAYS be grateful to those kind, generous persons.

@cuteblondegreyguy That doesn’t explain why you having lived in Houston then matters for wishing people well now.

@RedBaron it infers that living in the area he knows what the people in the Hill Country of Texas are going through. Over 20 people from the Houston area are part of the dead and missing, mostly little girls. He has a connection to the community. I appreciate his comment.

@KateATX Maybe, although Houston is a metropolis and an urban environment very different from the hill country.

Also, having lived in Texas doesn’t automatically confer a greater ability to empathize with those involved.
KateATX · 41-45, F
@RedBaron yes very different from the hill country but no stranger to floods and death from hurricane tropical storms. 68 people died in the Houston area in Hurricane Harvey. Who are you to judge his empathy? He had a harrowing experience in Texas, Houston to be exact. He identifies with what is happening here now.

@KateATX He has every right to. But not just because he lives in Texas.
KateATX · 41-45, F
@RedBaron you’re just trying to start an argument. You can go away now.
RedBaron · M
@KateATX Just stating my opinion. Sorry to bother you, snowflake.

@RedBaron snow flake? Because I ….,never mind
