An incredible talent and woman

I loved Dolly Parton, and I don’t think I know anyone who didn’t. I’m not a fan of country music, but Dolly transcended genres.

There are some people who become so much a part of the fabric of our lives that it’s hard to imagine a world without them in it. Dolly was one of those people.

The music. The humor. The hair. The rhinestones. The wonderfully over-the-top glamour. But what I loved most was the woman underneath all that show.

She was smart as hell. Funny. Generous. Kind. Savvy. Strong. She could laugh at herself without ever making herself smaller. She could be feminine and powerful, glamorous and substantive, ambitious and generous, all at the same time.

She understood something I wish more women did: Another woman’s light doesn’t dim your own. There is room for all of us to shine.

Dolly spent her life being unmistakably, unapologetically herself, and somehow made the rest of us feel like we had permission to do the same.

“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

She certainly did.

The world feels a little less compassionate without her in it.

Rest well, Dolly. You will be so very missed. 😢🩷
