Rally for Jon Ossoff and Keisha Lance Bottoms
Yesterday I attended a rally in Savannah for the two above candidates. It was invitation only; I assume I was invited because I make monthly contributions to both of their campaigns. The event location was kept secret until the day before. Here's the venue right before they came out:
Bottoms was introduced by her mom:
Here's Keisha Lance Bottoms, former mayor of Atlanta. If she wins, she will be the first Black female governor in the nation:
Here's Ossoff, I think the first Jewish senator from Georgia:
Both of them lucked out in drawing very poor opponents. Bottoms is running against Rick Jackson, a health care CEO who beat out Burt Jones in the primary. Jones would have been a formidable opponent as he is the current Lieutenant Governor, so he has a history of winning statewide office. Health care CEOs may be the most hated people in the nation. Everyone remembers when Luigi Mangione killed Brian Thompson, CEO of United Healthcare, and everyone said "good, he deserved it."
Ossoff is running against former Congressman Mike Collins. Collins is joined at the hip to Donald Trump, so outside of MAGA he has no appeal. He beat former football coach Derek Dooley, who was completely unqualified, but here in Georgia, football is a religion, so he would have been a much stronger candidate. So I'm hopeful that Ossoff will be reelected and Bottoms will win.
And yes, I was right in front of the podium, about 20 feet from the speakers.
