Food for thought. I will not argue or respond to hateful comments…

Ice is in Chicago. The TX national guard is in Chicago…

Ice is driving around and stopping people based on their appearance and demanding proof of citizenship.

This is another version of stop and frisk. Which has been ruled unconstitutional.

I am an American citizen. Born and raised in Chicago. Never been afraid to walk the streets on any neighborhood even the high crime rate neighborhoods- I have been a census taker and volunteered for multiple community outreach programs for 2 decades (since I was 18) and even before then as a teen. That’s besides the point. Not one have I ever felt unsafe. Is there crime in Chicago, absolutely but it’s not being committed by undocumented people, which are statistically less likely to commit a crime, it’s being committed by us citizens that are part of gangs and organized crime. I’ve never felt afraid because I don’t participate in illegal activity.

Now I’m afraid to walk out the door without my passport. Never in my life did I ever consider that I’d need to carry my passport and my children’s passport with me when I leave my house to go buy groceries or take my kids to and from school.

Never in my life did I think I’d have to have my teenagers keep their passports on their person at all times when they leave the house.

It shouldn’t be “hey mom I’m going to the movies with my friends” and then me replying “ok son have fun, be safe, AND DONT FORGET TO TAKE YOUR PASSPORT!”

I shouldn’t have to put AirTags inside my toddlers clothes in case I get some dbag agent questioning me who decides that he doesn’t think my passport is valid so they’re going to take me and leave my toddlers in my car!

Because that’s exactly what happens. They’re driving around see a group or single Hispanic and they stop them, and interrogate them, take them in until they decide that they’ve provided enough proof, in some cases they are holding citizens and residents INDEFINITELY!!! My mom’s nephew is a legal resident with no criminal record and he’s been in ice custody for almost 2 weeks now and they won’t let him call a lawyer. People saw him get taken by ice. He walked to the corner store to buy a soda and snacks for movie night with his wife and kids. Didn’t think he needed anything other than his phone to pay with Apple Pay!

This is making Chicago safe? Taking a legal resident that is married, has children and runs his own small business (not taking a job from anyone but creating jobs for others as he often has to hire other sub contractors for bigger projects)

This is absurd.

What if the tables were turned???

my sister lives in Chicago near Lake Michigan. Squatters moved into the house next to her illegally of course and they couldn't get them out. my sister is afraid to go anywhere and you can't carry a purse in Chicago. If the mayor did his job and enforced the law, ICE wouldn't be there with the National Guards. Chicago has one of the highest gun deaths in the whole country.
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@akindheart 1 Chicago doesn’t have the highest gun deaths in the country. That is a preposterous lie, a simple google search would show that to you.
2 I carry a purse all the time in Chicago.
3 squatters aren’t being removed by ice or the national guard
4 ice is not targeting actual criminals who commit violent crimes
5 if your sister is afraid to live in Chicago she should move somewhere she’s not afraid to live.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@KaysHealingPath boy you got nasty fast. my sister loves chicago but she is very afraid plus she owns a home there and has a good job. see below
AI Overview
Chicago has ranked as having the highest murder rate for a city with over one million residents for seven consecutive years (just google Chicago and there crime rate)
if your mayor did his job, Trump wouldn't have to. It has become a hell hole.

maybe YOU should move.
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@akindheart the national guard and ice aren’t here to curb murder rates.

It’s a known fact for people living in Chicago that the murder rare is a direct result of gang violence due to drug dealers fighting over turf.

It’s not being nasty to state the obvious.

If the national guard were her to curb the murder rate they’re be executing arrest warrants and patrolling high crime rate neighborhoods.
Furthermore the militarization of the city isn’t going to curb the murder rates.

Picking up people who are brown and detaining them until they prove they’re citizens is a violation of multiple constitutional rights.

Ironic because there are more illegal immigrants where I grew up in Texas than in Chicago (that's not me being accusatory, it's just true; I know people without their papers who have been here for a while). But Texas is a red state so there's no need to "show off" our dime store Gestapo there. I am Hispanic, the son of a legal Mexican immigrant, but that won't matter when racial profiling is encouraged in the name of "owning" cities that represent your political opposition.
I'm white and over the years spent time in the bad part of one of the big bad cities. I was routinely stopped by the police and friendly people and warned about the danger of being in that part of town. For a while, I participated in night meetings at housing projects where the host members saw to it that I safely departed the area at the end of the meetings. A common phrase was something like "you don't want to be here at night."

I was singled out for being white.

Why was I singled out? Because the police and friendlies knew that I was a potential target and had they ignored my color the likelihood of my actually becoming a crime victim would have gone up considerably.

When skin color or any other physical attribute tilts the statistics it's a valid reason for sorting out potential perps and victims.
Fallflower · 46-50, F
@Heartlander now imagine being singled out not to protect you but to accuse you.
masterofyou · 70-79, M
Yes it maybe absurd, but for four years the other administration left everyone undocumented and not a citizen across our borders which is very very unsecured and unsafe and the other party doesn't want safety and security in this country...😔 The whole thing is terrible 😔
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@masterofyou if you want safety and security are you advocating for the reporting of white males that walk by schools, churches and festivals?
masterofyou · 70-79, M
@KaysHealingPath explain??
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@masterofyou go read my second post 2/2
lilylovesgaming1986 · 36-40, F
Why would u be afraid u got all the paperwork u are legally here
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@BrandNewMan it’s pretty hard to believe anything that doesn’t fit your narrative of the big bad brown person I assume.
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@Jackaloftheazuresand again, I understand that for non documented migrants. Also this is a private attorney there is no need to withhold counsel as the attorney is not being paid for by the government.

Detaining legal migrants without cause, without a record and not telling their family where they are is disgusting.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@KaysHealingPath In the Rodriguez case a few of the people represented by the class action were long time immigrants with documentation. And yes I'm aware of of what you said, I'm telling you that the very fact that it's not state mandated is exactly why they can't get to see their client. In many of these past cases detention authorities have never been legally obligated to even respond to lawyers or offer reasons why they can't meet with their client, in others they get a basic scheduling conflict response. Point is this is normal and legal and has been for awhile.

You're free to think it's disgusting but that's about it
Fallflower · 46-50, F
This is absolute madness.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
Simply unbelievable. Where is the outrage?
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
ididntknow · 56-60, M
I suppose it’s what happens, when the democrats ( previous government ) purposely let into your country, millions of unverified migrants, no borders = no country, I suppose, you must be a globalist
markinkansas · 61-69, M

@Colormegone This is incorrect, the current Pres is the most corrupt ever. His corruption just hasn't been documented yet since everyone that knows what he is doing doesn't want to lose their jobs. It will all come out though soon enough.

@Thrust undocumented people are statistically the least likely group of people to commit violent crimes in the United States.
Have the day you deserve.
Thrust · 56-60, M
@KaysHealingPath

Dummy, they are criminals by their mere existence here. 100% of them

Now finish eating your paste
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@Thrust it’s a civil offense. It always has been and will continue to be until the law changes to criminalize it.
Unless they’re repeat offenders or are collecting money for bringing people here.
