What would compel someone to paint a room orange, give the room orange carpet and curtains, and entirely orange decor?

Having strange taste. The previous owners of the place where I live did one room out in a sort of orange colour, kind of terracotta. This included the carpet and ceiling, which then gave the impression that it was bearing down on me. I replaced this with fresh light green and a...white ceiling, but it took a while.
