Old and New Testament Historical Evidence That Points to Jesus As the Son of God and Our Savior

Jesus said we should believe Him, if we are to have eternal life. Jesus told us that He is not a liar and that we can depend on him and trust in him to save our soul. Some will take that by faith as the gospel truth, and some will not. However, historical evidence points that Jesus was telling the truth. It's hard to discount that there were 500 witnesses that saw Jesus after he resurrected from the grave and then witnessed his ascension to heaven, when he returned to his Heavenly Father, after his mission here was completed.

The death and resurrection of Jesus, are not merely a theory, but a core historical, archaeological, significant event.

The New Testament Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) provide accounts of Jesus's life, death, and resurrection, which are historical events. These are significant, as they are the foundation of salvation, offering forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life.

Jesus didn't leave us to guess. The Bible, particularly the New Testament, emphasizes the importance of Jesus's sacrifice and resurrection for salvation. However, it doesn't end there. There's plenty of Old Testament prophecy that points to Jesus as the Son of God.

Several Old Testament prophecies point to Jesus as the Son of God, including prophecies about the Messiah's lineage, birth, ministry, suffering, death, and resurrection. Here's a list of some key fulfilled Old Testament prophecies about Jesus' Lineage and Birth:

Genesis 3:15:
The "seed" of the woman (Eve) will crush the serpent's head:

"And I will put enmity between thee (Satan) and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."

A prophecy of a future Messiah, who would defeat evil. Jesus did just that. Satan thought he had defeated him and killed him once and for all when Jesus died on the cross, but Jesus proved him wrong. He arose from the dead and lives today. His death and Resurrection was witnessed by over 500 people.

Genesis 12:3:
God's promise that all nations will be blessed through Abraham's descendants, a prophecy of the Messiah's lineage.

Genesis 49:10:
The scepter will not depart from Judah, a prophecy that the Messiah would come from the tribe of Judah.

Micah 5:2:
The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. And Jesus was.

Isaiah 7:14:
The Lord promises a sign: "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel". The Bible verse that describes an angel telling Mary that she will bear a son, who will be called Jesus and will be the Savior of the world, is Luke 1:30-31. Here's the passage:

"And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favour with God. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS."

In the New Testament, Jesus is often referred to as "Christ" or "Messiah," which are Greek and Hebrew translations of the same concept, "anointed one".

The meaning of "anointed one":
In biblical times, "anointed" signified a person chosen by God for a special role, like a king or prophet. A powerful verse highlighting God's appointment of Jesus as Savior is:

1 John 4:14: "And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world."

Here's why this verse is significant:

It directly states that the Father sent the Son (Jesus) as the Savior of the world, leaving no room for ambiguity.

Testimony:
The verse emphasizes that the apostles, who witnessed Jesus' life and ministry, are testifying to this truth.

Focus on God's Initiative:
It underscores that the initiative for salvation comes from God, who sent his Son.

Universal Scope:
The phrase "the Savior of the world" indicates that Jesus' saving power extends to all people, not just a select group.

Prophecies about the Messiah's Ministry and Suffering:

Isaiah 53:
A detailed prophecy about a suffering servant who would be rejected, pierced for transgressions, and rise to atone for the sins of others, a prophecy of Jesus's suffering and death.

Psalm 22:
A psalm of suffering and abandonment, a prophecy of Jesus's crucifixion.

Prophecies about the Messiah's Resurrection and Return:

Psalm 16:10:
"For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, nor will you let your Holy One experience decay," a prophecy of Jesus' resurrection.

Isaiah 9:6-7:
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end," a prophecy of Jesus' eternal reign and divine nature.

Daniel 7:13-14:
A vision of a "Son of Man" receiving dominion, glory, and kingdom, a prophecy of Jesus's future authority and kingship.

If any knows of any other "savior" or a better way to be saved and have eternal life in heaven, than what has been given us through Jesus and His Word, they should come forth. I have not seen any evidence of any other "saviors" in this world, that can save us. Evidence includes eye witnesses of his death and Resurrection, and great historical evidence, including the fulfillment of every prophecy given in Scripture of his death and Resurrection. In fact, every prophecy in the Bible, has been fulfilled TO DATE, which points to the authenticity of a true prophet of God. With a true prophet, there's no guessing. If their prophecy comes 100% true at all times, that is the mark of a true prophet. A significant portion of these, estimated at over 2,000, have been fulfilled with astounding accuracy. Scholars believe that over 2,000 of the approximately 2,500 prophecies in the Bible have been fulfilled, being detailed and accurate predictions of even future events. Even the blood moon is mentioned in the Bible. It also gives detailed description of the future Great Tribulation and the battle of Armageddon! Your local newspaper can't accomplish that!

Examples of Fulfilled Prophecies:

Tyre: A detailed prophecy in Ezekiel chapter 26 concerning the city of Tyre, which was a major economic center, was fulfilled literally centuries later.

Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament.

Israel's Exile and Restoration: Prophecies regarding Israel's future into exile and the eventual restoration of their kingdom were fulfilled.

Prophecies about the Messiah's Lineage and Birth:

Seed of a woman (virgin birth): Genesis 3:15, Luke 1:35, Matthew 1:23

Descent from Abraham: Genesis 12:3, Acts 3:25-26, Matthew 1:1, Galatians 3:16

Descent from Isaac: Genesis 17:19, Matthew 1:1-2

Descent from Jacob: Genesis 28:13-14, Matthew 1:1-2, Luke 1:33, 3:23-34

Descent from Judah: Genesis 49:10, Matthew 1:1-2, Luke 1:32-33

Born in Bethlehem: Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:1-6

He would be called a Nazarene: Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 2:23

Prophecies about the Messiah's Ministry and Death:

He would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver: Zechariah 11:12, Matthew 26:14-16

He would be betrayed by a friend: Psalm 41:9, John 13:18

He would be mocked: Psalm 22:7,8, Matthew 27:39-44

He would be crucified: Psalm 22:16, Matthew 27:35

He would be pierced: Psalm 22:16, John 19:34

He would die with the wicked, but buried with the rich: Isaiah 53:9, Matthew 27:57-60, Luke 23:33

He would enter Jerusalem on a donkey's colt: Zechariah 9:9, Matthew 21:4-10

He would rise from the dead: Psalm 16:8-11, Isaiah 53:10, Matthew 28:6

He would be despised and rejected: Isaiah 53:3, Matthew 27:21-23

He would be silent before his accusers: Isaiah 50:6-7, Matthew 27:12-14

He would be spat upon and beaten: Isaiah 50:6-7, Matthew 26:67, 27:30

He would be hated without reason or cause: John 15:25, Psalm 35:19, 69:4

He would die a sacrificial death for us: Daniel 9:26, Isaiah 53:8

The Bible is more up to date than tomorrow's newspaper. It tells us exactly what will happen in the future and if past prophecies have been fulfilled up to this time, there's nothing to say they won't continue to be fulfilled until the end of time. There's no genius today that can predict the death and resurrection of Christ, some 500 years before it even happened, yet godly prophets did. This is the mark of a true prophet. This tells us we can depend on what God said in His Word to be 100% true and accurate...not a theory. God is no liar. He approved and appointed Jesus as Savior and the only Mediator between God and man. 1 Timothy 2:5

"And I will put enmity between thee (Satan) and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."

Only bruise ???

God could finish Satan off in one blow, so long ago but the story continues..... I must study this some more. ..

Thanks for sharing my Lady. .

@masterofyou Thank you so much for reading it. This verse is spoken by God to the serpent after the fall of humanity in the Garden of Eden, following the serpent's deception of Eve.

"Seed of the woman":
This phrase refers to the descendants of Eve, encompassing all of humanity, but with a particular emphasis on the Messiah (Jesus Christ) who would ultimately defeat Satan.

"It shall bruise thy head":
This signifies the ultimate defeat of Satan, the serpent, by Jesus, who will crush his power and authority, in the end.

"Thou shalt bruise his heel":
This refers to the suffering and death of the Messiah, who would be wounded and even die, but ultimately would rise victorious over death and sin.

You're so right dear heart. Jesus could have slaughtered and done away with Satan long ago but that was not the plan. Had he done that, that would have taken away our ability of choice. Our free will, ability to choose God over evil and we would have been stuck in our sins unable to save ourselves. Salvation is strictly up to us. God will not make that choice for us. The Bible says that Jesus never came and never will want, to throw us into hell. His whole purpose in coming to earth was to seek the lost and save them from the condemnation that sin placed on us all. But he can't do that if we stop him. He can't do that if we refuse his plan of salvation. His plan of salvation is our only means of being saved according to the gospel. He wants to know that we want to be saved because you know, some people don't want anything to do with him or to be saved. That's why we must tell him and ask him and invite him into our hearts and lives as our savior if we want to be saved. Left to chance, sin always destroys and condemns us to hell, not Jesus. He only wants to save us. But if some say they don't want anything to do with him and curse him and reject the only plan of salvation that can save them, God will honor their choice. You can throw a lifeline out to someone that's drowning in the ocean, but unless they grab on to it and receive it and use it to their advantage, they will definitely drown. We cannot drag our sins into heaven and that's what Jesus came to warn us about so that we would never miss heaven but if we refuse it, that was really our choice, not his. He's not willing that any should perish, as mentioned in John 3:16 and 17. Jesus didn't come to condemn the world but to save it.

I love that image. Thank you so much.

Isaiah chapter 53
King James Version

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors
.
@DanielsASJ
Those are such beautiful scripture. The words pierce my heart with joy to have Jesus as my Savior. At his great sacrifice just for us when he didn't even have to. No one forced him to. He did it out of his great love for us.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Such powerful words; such a mighty and powerful, glorious, merciful Savior we have. All praise and glory be to him forever and ever. Amen.

You don't need physical historical evidence for that. Along with what's in the Bible, all the proof you need to know Jesus is real is inside your heart. God can easily see what's inside a man's heart and soul. ❤✝🙏✨

@LadyGrace There's a really good movie that depicts Jesus' Resurrection. Its called "Risen".
@Barefooter25 I think I barely heard about that movie and I want to check it out. Have you seen it? Is it biblically accurate? Thanks for mentioning it.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
@LadyGrace It's a mixture of both but there are scenes in the movie that do contain events that happened in the Bible.

Proverbs Chapter 30 verse 3 and 4

3I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

4Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

Isn't that the most beautiful in all the world? Thank you so much for sending it. 🌹🙏🤗

@LadyGrace

King George III of England stood up when he first heard the Hallelujah chorus, and naturally everyone in the audience also stood up when the king did. This is why it is customary to stand during this chorus still today.

George III was king during the American revolution. My grand dad said standing for the Hallelujah chorus was one of the few decent things George III ever did.
@Thinkerbell
I am absolutely thrilled with this historical treasure. I cannot thank you enough. The Hallelujah chorus has always been a favorite of mine. I will never never forget how glorious it felt to sing it with the whole school choir and just how majestic and beautiful it sounded, without even a very big choir. It was plenty big but not as we see today. Oh, it just gave me chills and I treasure it to this day. I would love to sing it again and be a glorious part of it, with another choir. I cannot help but tear up when I hear it and I almost always sing along with them when I hear it on a video. 🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹
