Why would we need to? We can very easily surpass it.
Crucifixion is a brutal way to die- have you ever wondered HOW it actually kills you? It's not the exposure or the bleeding, or even the dehydration; it's inability of the body to properly cycle oxygen, since you can't move your arms below your head- you essentially suffocate in slow motion. Typically, it takes 24 hours at a minimum- Jesus died in six. Further, He'd already resurrected several people, so whatever the nature of His relationship with Yahweh, He knew it was possible- He got a sped-up nasty death, and was brought back two days later.
He sacrificed His weekend.
Let's compare Him with a human: specifically, Maximillian Kolbe. Kolbe was an inmate in Auschwitz at the time of the outbreak, in response to which the Nazis decided to take ten hostages and lock them in a room with no food or water for ten days, leaving them to brutally die of starvation. One who was chosen began begging for mercy, citing that he had a family; Kolbe stepped up and volunteered to go in his place, since he was a Catholic priest and had none. He was taken instead. Ten days later (remember, humans need water every 3- the room was opened, and Kolbe was found still alive, though very weak, and the last one left. The Nazis, moved by his survival, promptly... injected carbolic acid directly into his veins. Kolbe, being a priest, naturally had faith in divine mercy, but no knowledge; not like Jesus did.
He sacrificed his life.
He also didn't spend the entirety of his career boasting about how awesome he was. Jesus could stand to learn a thing or two from him.
@LadyGrace We don't need to be taught to think of others; natural selection chooses for benevolent behavior in EVERY social species. God, on the other hand, clearly does, as per your own reasoning- He sent humanity into a place where sin was inevitable, and refused to fix the problem while still sending new humans into it. If a child were to grab every member of an ant colony, one by one, and drop them into a vat of hydrochloric acid to die in agony, you'd call them mentally disturbed. God does something even worse, and yet you call Him "perfectly holy and just". I ask again, why? Why does a being with no human limitations get held to a lower moral standard? If this is the result of your analysis, then no, Jesus isn't the answer; He's the problem.
God endowed you with sense, reason and intellect; choosing to forgo their use is quite the insult to Him.
@Rabscuttle First of all, you want to know God So, Congratulations. God gives sense, strong reasoning that if your home has a manufacturer, if your fan has a manufacturer, your tv, AC, phone has a manufacturer. then why this earth will not have a manufacturer? It came on its own? You are talking about logic and here the logic completely fails. Developed on its own? Why can't a fan get manufactured on its own?
Exodus 21:20-21 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
@BlueSkyKing Jesus approves of slaves getting murdered and beaten.
Luke 12:42-48 (NKJV) = "42 And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food [h]in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 44 Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. 45 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, 46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more."
@emyphant The Lake of Fire is for anyone who has rejected Christ's sacrificial love and provision for salvation. That goes for any soul. It's not about being clean enough. The Bible says we can never earn our way to heaven. That's because we cannot measure up to God's perfect holy standards. Only he can do that. That's why we need to go to him for salvation. We have that sinful nature so we cannot save our own selves. This is why we need Jesus.
The lake of Fire is for people who reject The Love of God.
If your children reject your love would you light them on fire? No, it's horrifying to think anyone would do that. But you claim this being of pure love does that. Then it doubles down and keeps them burning forever.
