We have a relationship!

I just felt the hand of the Lord upon my shoulder, I told him I love His touch, and relished within it, and then He kissed me upon my forehead! I'm so excited! We have a real, intimate and deep and meaningful relationship, I LOVE HIM! I could also see the Holy smokes in my bedroom tonight so I know not to get tangled up into sin.

@sree251 That's the origin of the concept. Prior to that, Christian practice entailed membership in a community of worshippers.

Pietism was a movement within Lutheranism that originated in Germany. It emphasized the struggle with sin and being "born again" in Christ, and had a tremendous impact on Protestantism in general.
