Donald Trump was put here on earth and in particular, was put in the position of POTUS not for his benefit, but for the benefit of Americans who otherwise lack common sense. Trump is therefore a Teacher sent down from god himself, who will teach Americans what happens when they show up at the polling stations drunk or worse yet, when they don't show up at all and therefore, don't vote.
Not voting at all was a vote for Trump because to not vote means, they never did anything within their one-vote power to stop Trump from getting re-Elected.

We outside the USA have to understand that Americans are not a particularly well-educated nor are they a particularly well-informed mass of people as a collective and therefore when they act, they always look around to see what everyone else is doing first, before they take action.
If the crowd is moving to the right, they follow to the right, but never question why everyone is moving to the right.
They just assume that everyone wouldn't be moving to the right if someone didn't know what they were doing at the front of the line. So, like lemmings, Americans all make the swan dive at the end of the trail and hope the guy in the lead has a plan that's way better than what they're all staring at as they make their rapid descent into oblivion.
Americans because of their military-style of self-identity and insatiable need for heroes in their lives to validate their self-worth, are taught from youth that they'll be told what to do by their government when the time comes no matter what it is, which means they are not taught to think on their feet and therefore, are not taught to do what their gut tells them to do, even if their gut goes against the direction of the crowd.
We outsiders have to understand that Americans are born followers, Americans are not born Leaders... even in their own country.

If we want to understand how and why America functions or dysfunctions as it does, then 'WE' around the world who are not privy to the trappings of the USA have to understand my basic premise that America IS where it is because Americans themselves are not particularly well-educated, nor are Americans a particularly well-informed mass of people as a collective and therefore, should not be allowed to choose the POTUS solely from their individual vote.
Therefore, when Americans DO act either through primal impulse or from being told by their government to act, their childhood training tells them to follow the crowd and do as their government tells them to do.
If you personally want to go through life understanding absolutely shitte-all about Americans, then you will continue to question why Americans do as they do.
But if you want to be relieved of the burden of American ass-backward wonderment, then you must come to a solid place in your own understanding of how and why America functions or dysfunctions as badly it does.
For you to blatantly refuse to understand the American mind as if it were not your problem, it is YOU who will learn of the consequences of "not having to understand shitte" if that basic understanding of Americanism is left unlearned by YOU, not Americans!

@swirlie I see what you are saying. But maybe it is the context that brings us to cross purposes here. As a close neighbour, with an economy still interdependent, your perspective must carry the consideration of shared consequence. If the horse dies in your neighbours yard, the stink will be in your house too.
Since I am further away and much less connected. Plus I look in terms of the rise and fall of economic empires over time, I look at America as being another Spain, France or Britain. Distant and of no long term impact..There are differences to be sure.. As a nation, America is well resourced and self sustaining. So it wont settle into the relative obscurity of say Greece. But Americans egos are definitly propped up by the recent history and they will take the fall from grace badly..😷
