I Don't Believe In God

Most certainly not since I consider myself a little more educated than people from the dark ages who believed the world was flat. When the extremely rich churches demanded loyalty and ruled over everyone, also that you should be burned at the stake for being a non believer. What nice people them god fearing religious folk were.
Gee how can people still be so simple minded in this day and age ?

I think you might benefit from a little education yourself instead of this sort of dumb reductionism. People were not burned at the stake for being non believers. They were burned for be
Ie ing the Bible rTher than the dogmas of the church.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman You're demonstrating your ignorance again. People were persecuted, including being tortured and burnt or otherwise killed simply for not believing in the christian god.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
You need a few lessons in history. People were burned at the stake for believing in the Bible during the Inquisition. During the Soviet era people were imprisoned and killed by the atheist regime for their belief in God. It is still happening in North Korea. In fact if you think atheism such a good thing why don't you go and live there that is the only official atheist state in the world? I do wish you people wouldn't trot out these tired and inaccurate statements to try and prop up your anti-theist views. I can respect peopke who are non believers and have many interesting conversations. What I have a problem with is your totally unreasonable and inaccurate statements. I'm not throwing insults here I'm just stating facts @suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman None of what you've said changes the fact that people were persecuted for not believing in the christian god. Even today, non-christians are persecuted by christians in parts of the US "bible belt" and, to some extent, in other countries.

Persecution of non-christians was the way christianity was spread. I was faced with the same kind of hatred when I broke away from it.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Again you are totally wrong. I'm sorry if you've had some bad experiences and are angry about it which comes through in what you write, but the fact is that Christianity was not spread through the persecution of non-Christians. It was spread in spite of the persecution of Christians by the pagan emporers. It was spread by the power of its message of hope. Today in the world 80% of religious persecution is directed towards Chrisians. Fact. @suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman Wrong again, you need to check your facts instead of repeatedly spouting nonsense. Early christians managed to influence the Roman Emperor Constantine who initially tolerated christianity and later converted to it. Unfortunately, once they got their foot in the door, so to speak, there was no stopping them. :(
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Now you talked about the 'spread of Christianity' - that was when the Christian gospel spread rapidly around the Roman Empire was in the first five centuries in spite of severe persecution. With Constantine we get the politicisation of Christianity which is totally different. Check your facts! Don't just cherry pick the ones that you think happen to support your weak argument @suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman Wrong yet again. You just keep coming back with more and more nonsense. The spread of christianity around the world was all thanks to the power of the sword and the brutality of christian led armies. It had nothing to do with promoting peace and love, quite the opposite in fact.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
You are absolutely up the pole. Please read some history of the early spread of Christianity instead of comng out with these inane statements from uninformed sources. @suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman More childish insults I see. It seems that's all you're capable of. It's pathetic. I studied the bible and the spread of christianity when I was a christian. You don't even know my sources so calling then "uninformed" just demonstrates your ignorant prejudices.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Sorry they are not insults but factual statements. You are absolutely intellectually off-beam. It is pointless discussing anything with people like you because you will insist on believing misinformation. But then it suites up your own pre-determined prejudices. Your study apoears to have been of totally misinformed sources. But there are pkenty out there who want to believe anything. @suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman Wrong yet again! Are you trying to set a record? I believe demonstrable facts, it is you who blindly swallows fantasy. There is no evidence that your god exists but you're incapable of understanding even that simple fact. I admit some of my study was of totally misleading sources, it is called "the bible".

For once, you're right about one thing. There are plenty out there who want to believe anything, you're one of them.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
No it's when people stop believing n God they don't believe in nothing - they believe any tripe that's going. I'm really sorry that you swallowed this sort of stuff. I really do want people to believe those things which are true and you appear to have gone to sources which are demonstratably false. There was quite a bit of scholarship around attacking the Bible many years ago which is now been completely discredited by most of the scholars @suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman You're making a fool of yourself again. "...don't believe in nothing"? That's an inane double negative.

It is you who swallow rubbish, I believe in things that are demonstrably true. As I said, I did go to one major source that is demonstrably false - the bible. It's the biggest collection of fantasy, misinformation and lies I've ever read, yet you just swallow it all without question. How foolish is that? The bible has been complete discredited.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
What is your argument? You are just making these ridiculous statements without any argument whatever. You make these idiotic statements about the Bible with no facts. You appear to fill your head with untruths and then project it on to other things. Not surprising as atheism is based on a lie. @suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman You're really going all out to prove yourself the biggest fool on the internet.

I'm still waiting for you to produce some evidence to backup your ludicrous claims. All you've come up with thus far could just as well prove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. The untruths are in the bible, you'd know that if you actually bother to read it. All you ever do is try to insult those of us who have studied and understood it. Atheism is founded in reality, christianity is based on blind faith.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
It just shows how much you know or rather don't know . You are actually proving yourself an absolute idiot in talking about flying spaghetti monsters when we are talking about an omniscient creator. Unless it has escaped your attention there is quite a difference . The only people believe people like you are people who share your own blind prejudiced . My face is certainly not blind faith as it has been very carefully examined and found to be true which is more than I can say for your blind faith in atheism. You seem to believe every bit of junk that is out there and I'm really sorry about that@suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman Yet again you show yourself up as a silly old fool.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster, the Invisible Pink Unicorn and the christian "god" are all mythical creatures. There is no hard evidence for any of them but neither is there any proof they don't exist. Your blind prejudice prevents you seeing the similarity between them.

I was like you once, blinded by faith to the lies in the bible. Eventually, by careful study, I saw the bible for what it is and broke free. I'm sorry you're still blinded by it.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Name calling is not an argument. Neither is the sort of unreasoning prejudice you show. None so blind.....@suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman Not name calling, just stating the obvious. Obvious to everyone but you.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
A typical retort. The problem is you are blinkered to your own errors. Pkease try reading some history. (Groan)@suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman You're so blinded by prejudice you can't see the facts, much less understand them.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Look I don't mind being insulted by you. When people like you say I'm wrong and I know I must be right but this is gone a bit far hasn't it when you haven't even bothered to investigate anything properly apart from your own prejudicial judgement@suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman The point is, I have investigated properly, I made a through study of the bible when I was a christian. That's how I know it's full of lies and misinformation.

I know your claims about "god" are wrong but your prejudice prevents you seeing that.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
The fact is I know from the things you said you have not investigated properly as you are full of wrong ideas. For example the lunatic holiday that Christianity evolved from pagan religions when it is so Hewiah. You are laughably off-beam. You seem to believe anything @suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Speedyman Is there no limit to the rubbish you buy into? It's clear you know next to nothing about the bible, I doubt you've even read more than a few cherry-picked verses and didn't even understand those. Your ignorance of the bible is plain to anyone who has actually studied it.

All the "christian festivals" have their origins in Pagan festivals. Some, such as Easter, are even named after Pagan deities. Many of the saints were originally Pagan deities too. Try learning something about it before posting more idiotic nonsense.
