Leave the dead be. I was against her even before Chris Hitch. I dislike people who recount history as if it was a summer painting class
@val70 She did too much harm to just "let her be," especially since she's still revered as a saint in some circles. If you met someone who said Charles Manson was a great environmentalist and was just misunderstood, you'd correct them, right?

@LeopoldBloom The real problem is that you can't stand those "some circles". I understand that, and your comparision between her and Manson is indeed telling. Plenty of other people who were as bad and evil. She was bad, especially when she told everyone that God wasn't talking to her any more. I went around then telling those "some circles" that He had already told her enough. Her legacy isn't as powerful as St Francis or even St Theresa of Avila to the right people
@val70 The people who revere Mother Teresa today are ignoring the documented facts about her that started coming out even while she was still alive. It's not like there's some argument over the care she provided in her clinics compared to what she expected for herself, or anything else I listed. Her supporters either don't believe she did those things, or don't care. That's different from a difference of opinion. Her degenerate views on abortion and contraception are different because people can have divergent opinions on those. I'm talking about objective facts.

St. Francis and St. Theresa lived a long time ago, so they're not really comparable.

@LeopoldBloom With that blooming idioticy said I wish a good life :-)
@val70 Please provide evidence from a reliable source supporting the arguments:

The care provided at MT's clinics was up to recognized standards
MT did not take advantage of advanced care for herself
MT did not support Ghaddafi, Hoxha, and Duvalier, and any statements of support were fabricated
MT opposed Princess Diana's divorce despite statements to the contrary
MT returned the money Charles Keating stole after Judge Ito asked her to

If you can't do that, then just admit you don't care about the damage this evil woman did, because you support other degeneracy like her opposition to abortion and birth control.

@LeopoldBloom I'm sorry, but I wasn't clear enough. From the moment you told me that "St. Francis and St. Theresa lived a long time ago, so they're not really comparable", well, that was the statement that broke the camel's back for me :-)
@val70 They're not comparable because we don't have the same detail of information on them that we do about a modern person like MT. If MT lived in the Middle Ages, we wouldn't know much about her beyond the fact that she had care facilities for poor people.

@LeopoldBloom Here's my last say on the matter. Have you ever been inside the Vatican archives for example? Read Teresa of Avila in Spanish? Obviously not. You deny people their say even before they can say anything to you. You even haven't met anyone we've mentioned in our chat here. But who knows indeed. How can make it more plain to you? The world isn't flat any more. You can't see the obvious connection between Madame Bovary and Anna Karenina, and you probably haven't met George Steiner either
@val70 I don't care about Teresa of Avila and have no reason to denigrate her. Is she controversial or something? From what I know, she was a Spanish religious mystic and was involved in several church reforms. I'm not aware of anything negative about her.

I'm not aware of anything negative about St. Francis of Assisi either. All I know about him is that he was kind to animals. Is he controversial too?

I'm focusing on Mother Teresa now because that's what the original thread is about. If you want to expand the discussion to historical figures with good reputations who were actually monsters, we can do that.
