Why do christians pray? [Spirituality & Religion]

According to the christian myth, their god has this great plan and always does what's best for us. Praying amounts to asking it to do something it hadn't thought of doing. Isn't it rather arrogant of them to presume they know better than their "almighty god"?

The question is why? In the case of christianity, their god is supposed to have a perfect plan, well beyond their comprehension. It makes no sense asking it be changed just to satisfy an individual's wishes.
@Sharon To be fair your approval isn’t required. I assume you don’t pray to anyone or thing and you don’t come across as particularly happy person. Just let them do their thing. It isn’t hurting you.

I sometimes pray the The Great God Fuck when something goes wrong. I find Him a great comfort in situation such as those. I don't know why you think I'm unhappy. I suspect it's just wishful thinking as you can't understand how anyone can be happy without believing in your god. The fact is you're wrong. I'm very happy in my life. I have a lovely home in the country, a loving husband and a good job I really enjoy. Sorry if that makes you envious.

I'd be quite happy to if only they'd allow others to live their lives in peace. By questioning their beliefs, I hope to alert others who might otherwise be deceived and exploited by them.

@swirlie Prayer is worshipping,pleading,asking for things from God,thanking God. A solemn request.etc.
Meditation has many types..Vippasana (insight) meditation,Meditation on Emptiness etc.
Meditation is a set of techniques to gain focussed attention,a psychological aid (aids) that have been shown to have many Benefits.
Nothing to do with imagining oneself communicating with an imaginary being.
