God's distinct care for His people.

What a story I read about to show the above point in my 'Banner Of Truth' magazine.

George Müller in 1885 wrote about a story that had happened many years before this date.

We go to Ashburton, Devonshire where a farmer's wife got saved and the farmer opposed her conversion.

She waited for her husband to go on a trip and when he was away, made the decision to get baptised, through God's providence, the circumstances did not allow him to return to stop it when he heard of it.

When he came back he cruelly beat her. The next day, he was out all day but returned in the evening.

During the night he thrashed around, he could not get to sleep. To his wife's shock, the next day, the Sunday, he went with her to church.

Why the sleepless night, church and why the change of heart? Can you guess what phrase he claimed to hear?

Yes. After bearing his wife he had heard a voice clearly saying to him "Why persecutest thou me?"

By God's grace he got converted, such grace that God's anger did not abide on him.

What an amazing story!

On a sidenote this isn't to encourage staying in a physically abusive marriage but just a story of encouragement and how God treasures his saints.

Banner of Truth has been going a long time now. Glad it is helpful.

It draws inspiration from Johnathan Edwards and George Whitefield. Eighteenth century Christianity is often neglected.

Doors sometimes open unexpectantly usually as a result of prayer, often by others.

When I became a Christian many years ago, it draw hostility from my mother and indifference from my father. Later my mother became a Christian. My father very hostile.
I tread carefully with my wife.
I show some resonance with your story.
