Christians do you engage in spiritual masturbation?

At Bible study last night a young fellow with a good memory recited 1 Peter. It was quite impressive but it left me cold. The study wasn't much and it quickly degenerated into how to memorise. We left as the study ended being one of the first to leave but as I drove away I was thinking and came to the realisation that we Christians do all kinds of things we think are spiritual but are not. In fact they are acts of spiritual masturbation and not Intercourse with God.
