I Am Christian

Misunderstanding of scripture or lack of hearing, one may ask "do you follow every word of the Bible?" That shows nothing but your lack of knowledge and understanding to the Christian faith. A Christian is not required to followed every word of the Bible. Perhaps read it and attempt to hear the Word before making assumptions in such questions.

Eh... Being truly Christian is absolutely about striving to live by ‘the word’. Anything else is cherry picking for convenience.
Reverend · M
@DamnFeelz living by the word we are required to live by is much different then living by the Bible as a whole.
DamnFeelz · 36-40, F
Well yeshua says in the New Testament that the Old Testament is still valid so... @Reverend
Reverend · M
@DamnFeelz was that before the blood shed or after when the new testament was instituted?
DamnFeelz · 36-40, F
It’s been probably 14 years since I read the Bible. Admittedly, I can only remember the gist. If I remember correctly it was before the blood, but if you’re going where I think you’re going with this, if the Old Testament were no longer valid then it wouldn’t be included with the New Testament anymore.@Reverend
Reverend · M
@DamnFeelz sure, I understand and there is some of the old testament that is still valid. There has been some done away with in Christ Jesus.
Reverend · M
@DamnFeelz I suppose it would be a decent time to ask. If the old testament was indeed mandatory and could save mankind, what is the purpose of a new testament?
DamnFeelz · 36-40, F
Paraphrased, the Judeo and Roman corruption along with the near unachievable standards of it all . Christ was a representative of God recognizing this and offering mercy, but Yeshua didn’t tell people to throw away the ethical standards of the Old Testament. He did make some revisions on marriage though which as far as I read were never fully addressed as to why @Reverend
Reverend · M
@DamnFeelz You're right, Jesus did make changes as he is the only one that could, considering he is God in the flesh and fulfilled the old testament law in its entirety. The new testament began after Jesus shed his blood and was resurrected. The gentile nation was only required to keep certain laws. The majority of Christians believe that mystery Babylon in Revelation refers to the roman catholic church. If we read it and compare scripture with scripture that great whore is nothing else but Jerusalem. "Where all the prophets were killed". Some even say its America. Keeping the bible in context makes a huge difference vs looking at society.
DamnFeelz · 36-40, F
Eh... all I can say is that dance with ‘context’ sounds like a slippery slope not much different than anyone historically whose interpretation of the Bible (God’s word etc) conveniently aligned with their own attitudes and agenda @Reverend

@DamnFeelz Except Paul literally says the Law no longer applies:

"Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian."

Mat 5:17 - "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them.
Mat 5:18 - For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.
Mat 5:19 - Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:20 - For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

@DamnFeelz So then does the Bible contradict itself? Are Paul's letters the word of God?
DamnFeelz · 36-40, F
I’m not Christian, so I don’t have a dog in this fight. @SW-User

@DamnFeelz Fair enough. I was taught that Jesus fulfilled the Law, meaning that what the Law set out to do has been completed by Christ's sacrifice. Which means that once that's done, the Law's purpose is no longer to be followed by the letter, hence what Paul is saying.
