Actually, you've brought up something very interesting and quite wise. So many claim to be followers of Christ, yet take it no further. They don't really understand what that means. They truly believe that just because they believe in God, that's all that's necessary, but as you mentioned, even the devil believes in God, but he's not saved.

This illustrates that intellectual assent to God's existence, even with fear, is not the same as the saving faith that leads to salvation.
