Staples Can’t Bind Everything
Staples in my mind
But no staples in the papers
Twirling through the science of it
That’s been left off in the tapers
Wishing for the wind to come
And rise upon my back
I have no sails, to catch the gales
In this world of utter black
There’s many of onlookers
Thinking they might see
A little bit of my inner light
Or some hint of some beauty
I am but a wretch inside
A waterfall of wretched people
And I don’t have a place to pray
Underneath some crooked steeple
I watch the world grind slowly
Up against itself
I listen to the crying voices
And can see that I’m no help
I wonder as the stars collide
And black holes open up
Just to swallow everything
Inside the broke enough
I wish but I can’t pray no more
For God has lost his vision
And if a God can’t see the wrong
I just can’t write revisions
For who am I but a man
Filled with sadness and some anger
But I can still find a smile
For some person that’s a stranger
But in my eyes, if you look hard
You will see how hard I’ve hardened
And when my end comes crashing in
It’s I that won’t be pardoned.
