All Who Live In Christ Are Sealed With the Holy Spirit of Promise of Eternal Life - Ephesians 1:13-14
Ephesians 4:30 - "Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are SEALED unto the day of redemption."
What does it mean to grieve the Spirit?
We make the Holy Spirit sad, distressed when we disobey the Lord, but He never disowns us. Hebrews 13:5 confirms that God said he will never leave us nor forsake us. That's God's promise to His children.
When does one receive the Holy Spirit of God?
Ephesians 1:13-14, states that those who hear God's word of truth, and upon receiving it as truth, accept Jesus as Savior, immediately receive the Holy Spirit, as promised by God in His Word...then are SEALED as God's own:
"In whom you also trusted, AFTER hearing the word of truth, the gospel of your SALVATION: in whom also AFTER that you believed, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of PROMISE, which is the earnest of our inheritance, until the redemption of the PURCHASED possession, unto the praise of His glory."
Immediately after repenting of our sins and receiving God's forgiving grace, [UN-earned favor from God], God KEEPS His promise to save us and give us eternal life [John 3:16, 17]. We inherit eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven from the Holy Spirit of Promise. God always keeps His promises! To go back on His promises, would make God a liar, and He is no liar. He CANNOT lie. It is not in His sinless, perfect nature.
God knows and understands that we are not sinless and he does not expect us to be! However when we do sin, and we will until we go home to be with the Lord, He does not disown us every time we make a mistake. His love for us is UNCONDITIONAL. When we sin, we can go straight to our loving Father's arms and ask Him for forgiveness and He is more than willing to forgive us, which brings us right back into right standing and fellowship with God, Romans 8:1...there is NO CONDEMNATION to those God redeemed by His blood.
The most common way God communicates with us, is through the quiet, loving, spiritual promptings of the Holy Spirit, which speaks to our hearts and minds, and even our God-given conscience, tells us the difference between right and wrong. Jesus said the truth sets us free. And it does, it sets us free in body, mind, soul, and spirit. The Holy Spirit's job is to help us discern the truth.
The account of The Prodical Son, in the Bible, beautifully illustrates our Heavenly Father's faithful love :
The rebellious son disobeyed his father and left home. The wise, loving father let him go, so he could find out for himself, that the sinful world was no place for him. Just as soon as the son learned his lesson the hard way, he came right back to his father, asking for forgiveness. His father never disowned him, but welcomed him back with open arms and was so happy to have him back, he held a special celebration.
The Lord knows full well that we will mess up, but because He loves us, He lets us learn our lesson, however, He NEVER disowns us or kicks us out of His life for good. When we come back and repent and ask for forgiveness, our Heavenly Father is always there, and MORE than welcomes us back, with open arms. This is why it's important to under stand from Bible verse, what God's Holy Spirit Seal of Promise actually enforces:
The Holy Spirit, Himself, is the Seal of PROMISE that God places in each believer upon receiving Jesus as Savior. That special SEAL on His people, represents:
1. A FINISHED transaction.
2. A Holy Spirit Seal cannot be broken! You are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and that's why Jesus said, "It is finished!!" His mission was completed! He bought us with His redeeming, cleansing blood, and NO ONE can snatch us out of His hand!
John 10:28 - "I give them ETERNAL life, and they shall not perish FOREVER, and NO MAN shall pluck them out of My hand!
3. The Holy Spirit Seal is God's holy seal on His followers, as proof that they are His, and have accepted and received salvation by grace through faith, and His Holy Spirit now indwells in them to lead, guide, and teach them the things of God.
The seal represents the security of the believer, in the certainty we receive from the Holy Spirit. Despite what our emotions tell us, despite what the lies of the enemy tell us, despite what our own human reasoning tells us, we know that we belong to God, because of the Holy Spirit, the Seal of the promise of salvation. We also know that we belong to God, because of God's promise to save us and keep us as His own.
