A motivation to charity if there ever was one...
While reading my new Matthew Henry commentary I was struck by this commentary on 2nd Corinthians 8:
As Christians we ofcourse prioritise church giving (if we are able) and then we should also be charitable in giving- of our time and/or financial resources.
What a motivation to charity from the above commentary by Henry- if you are a Christian you are not special. You are not amazing. You were chosen from eternity past to be saved by His grace solely for His glory- you are an eternal charity case! You rely on Christ's blessings and you couldn't have come to Christ on your own means- we are far too wicked for that (Romans 8:7).
In the words of my pastor- we are beggars simply showing over beggars where the bread is!
May this encourage us Christians to grow in charity.
This is a good reason why we should be charitable to the poor out of what we have, because we ourselves live upon the charity of the Lord Jesus Christ.
