Cracks, supermarkets and God's mysterious sovereign purposes.
Remember a few Sundays ago where the Zambian (my wife's Country) pastor preached? You would have heard two stories he shared, well I will share two more he shared during that sermon! I haven't had the time due to a manic few weeks to do this but now I do.
Story #1 Cracks
He told us of a church he knew where it was slowly deteriorating, cracks were forming on the walls, etc and the building was facing a growing number of maintenance issues- prayer after prayer but the funds weren't coming and the building was getting worse.
The worst happened- the building's foundations were destroyed. During a council investigation they found the construction of a supermarket opposite had caused the damage and the supermarket had to pay for a brand new church for the congregation!
The church is now a thriving church, home to a Gospel hungry congregation!
Story #2 Not by bread alone
This involves the Zambian pastor himself- he was out shopping in the bread section of a supermarket, feeling bold he approached a woman and said "Man does not live by bread alone" to his amazement she replies "But by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’
The next time he is in the supermarket she approaches him and this time she starts "Man does not live by bread alone". This happens a third time and she invites him to her church (as in the church she is a member of) and he ends up preaching as a guest there!
These events both took place in the UK here and I hope they serve much encouragement, all churches and individuals in these stories are Gospel centred and are not scared to mention the full implications of the Gospel- Sin, God's judgement, hell and the redeeming blood of Christ for those who believe on Him.
