Matthew 17:1-13 Last sermon on the life and times of Elijah
. God raises up His servants who boldly preach the Gospel.
. Many preachers in our land are too cowardly to preach against sin, to them the LORD does not come first. Pray for more men like John the Baptist and Elijah.
. Similarities between John the Baptist and Elijah- full of the Spirit of God, preached in the wilderness, persecuted from people in high places, etc.
. Let us pray God will continue to raise up godly men who will preach the Gospel, even in the future, even in the future of your church when you are long gone.
. We will not pray for false teachers in this church- Paula White, Greg Locke, etc.
. We are in a spiritual battle and we need field marshals for the Gospel.
. Departed saints are just as much a part of the church as we are, however we do NOT pray to them. We do not use the false romish definition of saint.
. Like Moses and Elijah did and do, there will be a time when we speak to Christ face to face.
. Great men have made great ministries, but Christ's ministry will last forever. All the greater things the OT prophets spoke of, was Christ.
. Elijah going to the Gentile widow, was a foreshadow of Christ approaching the Gentiles.
. It's not a throne of works righteousness, it's not a throne of being good enough, it's a throne of grace!
. Pour out your soul to God, He sees and knows all!
. "Prayer is the key that opens and shuts heaven" Matthew Henry
. Your prayer on the hardest or most difficult issue = view it as Elijah's rain.
. Given that there is One greater than Elijah, have you come to believe on Christ?
