Wednesday Bible Study Notes 18/02/26

Study based on Matthew 13: 1-9 and 18-23

. The parable demands our attention as it is repeated in 2 of the other Gospels.

. It is timeless- relevant then and relevant today!

. Wherever people are, share the Gospel, no need for an extragagant pulpit!

. Seed= Gospel Sower= Christ Himself Soil= Our heart, bearing fruit?

. "I'd only believe, if God showed me a sign" Well, Christ Himself was in the presence of people who still rejected Him. No you wouldn't.

. Everyone can hear sermons with their physical ear, but do you hear them with your spiritual ear?

. People who listen well to sermons, God's Word, etc. Worldly interests like politics are on the floor, but the Gospel is at the ceiling!

. Satan loves to make prey of poor listeners to sermons, as Thomas Manton put it, Satan is the thief of sermons.

. People who had false conversions and never believed on Christ love saying things like " I've tried Christianity, it's not for me" or "I used to believe". Rest assured- they were never truly saved to begin with.

. God uses trials to establish and confirm His people (Christians).

. We live in the light of our eternal destination- earth iss just our pilgrimage. Make sure the cares of this world (And that includes politics SW!!!!!) don't choke the cares of the world to come.

. The good soil may well have thorns, etc but unlike the false convert, the good soil will recover and thorns won't reiign over them! And remember, the good fruit in us is not by our own effort, but by God working in us.

Earlier in my former post when talking about Christ I quoted the wrong verse in Revelation. I meant to quote Revelation 19:12-16.

Does this sound like the Christ your church preaches, or does he sound like the Christ Charismatics preach- a buddy you have a beer with?

It's actually interesting.
As part of my Catechism, I've been studying the original Aramaic and Koine Greek texts.

Abwun D'Bishmayya in proper Aramaic means
"Birther/Creator of the Cosmos who dwells in the Timeless Kingdom".

Regarding Sermons:

Father Earnest spoke about water and fire metaphorically and the freedom of will humans have. It's up to us to choose the right one.

Also to discern between the voice of the Holy Spirit and the Enemy:

The one who says you are worthy, keep going, don't be afraid, your sins can be forgiven and you can find reasonable happiness in this life is the Holy Spirit.

The Enemy says that we aren't worthy, no point in doing good, no point in trying for redemption and all will be bleak.
@basilfawlty89 Thankyou for sharing!
