Thoughts on death from today's sermon

Going to have to categorise the notes from today's sermon- this will be a seperate section on the thoughts on death straight from my pastor's sermon today.

1. Happy is the Christian who dies well with the spirit of Steven "Lord Jesus recieve my spirit". My pastor said he regularly prays for these words to come from his mouth when he dies.

2. God decrees the very second we die- when, where and how. This should be of great comfort to the believer.

3. My pastor quoted the hymn he wants at his funeral- 'Sovereign Ruler of the skies'
"Plagues and deaths around me fly;
Till He bids, I cannot die;
Not a single shaft can hit,
Till the God of love sees fit."

4. Until your death which God has decreed remember time is short.

5. Elijah didn't die but on his last hour on earth he was still encouraging others! Do good to your brothers and sisters in Christ while you still can.

6. When God calls our loved ones in Christ home we will be seperated from them for a season and we will ofcourse be sad but we will soon see them for an eternity!

7. A beloved pastor dies... but God will raise up another pastor to replace him!

A member dies who always had their favourite spot... that spot and chair will one day be sat in by someone else... and they will meet each other in eternity, if they be in Christ!

At my mother's funeral the elderly pastor conducting the service stood and shocked everyone. He flat out stated that he did not believe in life after death. Everyone gasped. He went on to explain that he believed in Life after life. Our death was little more than walking through the door to a new existence. For those whom God has called and chosen they enter eternal joy. For those who refuse God's abundant Grace they face eternal damnation.
