Friday Sermon Review- Something Different.
My sister got married on Friday- great event, great fun, tons of people to mingle with and a great fun dancefloor.
But I need to focus on a negative spiritual aspect- the sermon on the wedding ceremony which was awful.
1 John 4:16 was brutally ripped out of context or poorly exposited- "cultural Christians" and even other non believers probably went away smug thinking God was with them simply because they have love in some form or another.
The liturgy there dreadfully assumed everyone there was "His people" when the vast majority absolutely weren't!
The part he got right was tying marriage to the marriage of Christ to the bride, His church.
The worst part- the Gospel wasn't there! On prayer duty with my pastor today, while we were talking before the service and I mentioned this to my pastor, he said (spiritually speaking) that is criminal.
All those people there and the so called vicar didn't even share the Gospel out of non belief or cowardice. Everyone on the coach after would not have even thought on spiritual things.
I would have given anything for my pastor or the vicar from a place my wife's family frequents on business to have married my sister and her now husband, the Gospel would absolutely have been in there then.
I thank God for the church I attend.
